Description

 

 

The Office of Research (OR) serves as the primary campus office for matters related to research, including:

  • Review and acceptance of extramural research awards.
  • Furthering research relationships with government and industry.
  • Encouraging and assisting faculty in developing research and scholarly studies.
  • Oversight of intramural research support.
  • Functional responsibility for organized research units and projects.
  • Management of certain research-related programs, instrumentation and facilities.
  • Management of several UC Natural Reserve sites
  • Review and approval of the use of human subjects and conflict of interest disclosures.
  • Coordination of patenting and licensing of campus intellectual property.

Job Summary

 

 

Under direction, work independently with responsibility to the Attending Veterinarian, provide specialized veterinary, technical and research support services to principle investigators through Campus Veterinary Services (CVS). Routinely provide veterinary treatment to research and teaching colony animals and supports campus vivaria in Davis, Sacramento and outlying areas in compliance with national and state regulations and standards to maintain Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International (AAALAC) accreditation. Provide specialized technical support to campus-wide research and teaching activities. Independently treat a diverse range of species (approximately 50) used for research and teaching on campus such as rodents, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) covered species including nonhuman primates, livestock, and other traditional and non-traditional laboratory animal species (birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, etc.). Administratively oversees the campus' animal care and health practices, the screening of incoming animals, the campus' diagnostic and disease control practices to ensure overall compliance with animal welfare standards. Provide surgical and anesthetic support including induction, maintenance and recovery from anesthesia and post-operative monitoring in all species. Maintain administrative documentation of procedures consistent with internal policy, USDA, ILAR Guide and the Animal Welfare Act. Collect samples, initiate the prevention and treatment of a wide variety of diseases in laboratory animals, and provide training and oversight of students and volunteers. Act as a resource for investigators by providing a variety of rechargeable research support services, training, and consultations.
