President
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a voting member on the SVAALAS Board of Directors
· Attend monthly Board Meetings once a month for 1-1 1/2 hours
· Participate in monthly general meetings (tours, lectures)
· Organize board meeting agendas and distribute to other board members one week prior to the next meeting
· Officiates board meetings
· Appoint members for Committee Chair positions
· May be a Committee Chair by default if another member does not accept the position
· Ensure that each committee is meeting their goals.
· Notify National AALAS each year of new SVAALAS board by February 1st
· Notify National AALAS each year of final membership roster by April 30th for branch challenge.
· Set board meeting schedule for the year
· Schedule meeting time and location for all meetings
· Sign certificates for all CEU events
· Participate in district 8 conference calls
Vice-President
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a voting member on the SVAALAS Board of Directors
· Three year term

· Attend monthly Board Meetings once a month for 1-1 ½ hours
· Participate in monthly general meetings (tours, lectures)
· Assist President and Committee chairs
· May be a Committee Chair by default if another member does not accept the position
· May officiate board meetings if president is absent
Immediate Past-President
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a voting member on the SVAALAS Board of Directors
· Support President and Vice President- mentorship
· Attend monthly Board Meetings once a month for 1-1 ½ hours
· Participate in monthly general meetings (tours, lectures)
· Assist with committees
· Assist with events
· May be a Committee Chair by default if another member does not accept the position
Treasurer
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a voting member on the SVAALAS Board of Directors
· 1 year term
· Attend monthly board meetings- once a month 1-1 ½ hours
· Participate in monthly general meetings (lectures, tours)
· Report current balance of branch funds at each board meeting
· Collect membership dues and other monies for deposit in branch account
· Pay all Branch obligatory fees from branch account
· Keep records of all transactions
· Check book and ledger must be up to date and available for audit
· May be a Committee Chair by default if another member does not accept the position
Secretary
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a voting member on the SVAALAS Board of Directors
· 1 year term
· Attend monthly board meetings and take minutes- once a month 1-1 ½ hours
· Distribute minutes to board members. The first draft of the minutes should be sent out within one week of the meeting and the final should go out one week prior to the next meeting with the next agenda.
· Send out reminders to members regarding meeting dates and times
· Participate in monthly general meetings
· Report all Branch meetings and activities to AALAS for national calendar
· May be a committee chair by default if another member does not accept the position
· Submit membership list to National AALAS by February 1st
Director
Responsibilities:
· Serve as a voting member on the SVAALAS Board of Directors
· 2 year term
· Attend monthly board meetings and take minutes- once a month 1-1 ½ hours
· Participate in monthly general meetings
· Serve as a committee chair for one of the SVAALAS committees
· Maintains and updates SVAALAS membership roster
Public Relations Committee
Responsibilities:
· Serve as adhoc non-voting members of the SVAALAS board of directors
· Attend monthly board meetings as requested by the president
· Find ways to educate the public about the importance of animal research
Suggestions:
· Booth at Picnic Day
· Work with CBRA on local events
· Work with other local organizations
· Attend Career days at local schools
Audit Committee
Responsibilities:
· Serve as adhoc non-voting members of the SVAALAS board of directors
· Attend monthly board meetings as requested by the president
· Shall audit the books of the financial records of the branch annually
· The audit committee is to be appointed from the Board of Directors by the President
· The audit report shall be presented for approval by the Board of Directors prior to the annual meeting and to the membership at the annual meeting
Suggestions:
· Will need ledger + bank statements from Treasurer
· Will need list of individual, institution, and commercial members from secretary
Nomination Committee
Responsibilities:
· Serve as ad hoc non-voting members of the SVAALAS board of directors
· Attend monthly board meetings as requested by the president
· Nominate two individual members as candidates for the office of Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and one Director no later than November 1st
· Recruit a non-SVAALAS member to conduct election
Suggestions:
· Email for nominations should go out by September general meeting
· Election held in October
· New board should be elected by Nov 1.
Education Committee
Responsibilities:
· Serve as ad hoc non-voting members of the SVAALAS board of directors
· Attend monthly board meetings as requested by the president
· Determine what opportunities our members want
· Develop and coordinate educational opportunities for our members
· Responsible for obtaining meeting locations, creating flyers for secretary to send out, coordinating with speakers, bringing refreshments, creating CEU certificate, gift for speaker, etc.
Suggestions:
· Serve as ad hoc non-voting members of the SVAALAS board of directors
· Attend monthly board meetings as requested by the president
· Lecture Series
· Technician Certification Series (certification of completion)
· Hands on training (aseptic techniques, necropsy, etc.)
· Tentative schedule for the year should be out by Jan 1st
· Will work closely with Membership committee chair
Awards Committee
Responsibilities:
· Serve as adhoc non-voting members of the SVAALAS board of directors
· Attend monthly board meetings as requested by the president
· Develop an awards program to recognize individual members
· Develop criteria for award recipients
· Develop process for award recipient selection
· Organize awards banquet (location, catering, cost, etc…)
· Work with vendors for funding for awards
· Select Speaker for Awards Banquet
Suggestions:
· Try to set up banquet for sometime during AALAS tech week
· Technician of the year

District 8 Committee
Responsibilities:
· Serve as adhoc non-voting members of the SVAALAS board of directors
· Attend monthly board meetings as requested by the president
· Participate in planning the D8 conference
· Liaison with other District 8 chapters
· Acquire meeting dates
· Participate in District 8 functions, District 8 council meeting in Las Vegas and National AALAS meeting
Membership Committee
Responsibilities:
· Find ways to increase membership
· Plan and coordinate social events
Suggestions/ Goals:
· Increase membership to 150+
· Increase awareness about our organization at UCD/ Jax and target smaller companies like Valley Biosystems, Sac State, etc.

Communications Manager
Responsibilities:
· Receive membership applications and monies
· Give monies to treasurer and a copy of the application with method of payment specified.
· Maintain an active list of members and email addresses
· Keeps a file of membership applications and list of members
· Manages listserve by adding members to discussion group
· Sends out correspondence to the group
Newsletter Editor/Chair
Responsibilities:
· Send out quarterly newsletters by the 1st Tuesday of the following months: January, April, July, and October
· Solicit articles from members and board members
· Each newsletter to include: program updates, membership updates, district 8 updates and other information supporting the branch or AALAS as a whole
· January newsletter to include: New board and committee chairs, members who have passed AALAS exams, Picnic Day date, a message from the Past President and an announcement regarding the awards banquet
Website Manager:
Responsibilities:
· Post Program
· Post announcements
· Post supporting vendors information/website
· Post Newsletters
TBR (Technician Branch Representative):
Responsibilities:
· Share technicians' activities, ideas, and suggestions with other AALAS branches and the National Office
· Help technicians promote biomedical research on a local level.
· Provide technicians with professional opportunities and strategies at the local, district, and national levels
· Maintain regular contact with other TBRs, the CTAD, and the AALAS national office via the Branch Leadership and TechLink electronic listservs
· TBRs serve as the voice of the technician community by serving as liaisons between the 50 local AALAS branches and the AALAS national office. TBRs are the “heart” of the AALAS family and the method by which the CTAD is able to assist technicians
· The TBRs work closely with the CTAD to keep this two-way exchange of information between the branches and the AALAS national office
